John Denver became a star through the folk-inspired songs he composed, the majority of which are located in Colorado. Take Me Home Country Roads written by co-writer Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo singer after a brief stint in small folk bands. Danoff composed the track in conjunction with Johnny Cash in mind but after Denver was introduced to an earlier version immediately, he realized the song could be the next hit single. The track was released just a few weeks after it was performed in Washington D.C. performance.
